Instructional courses are the best way to learn to play safely in the mountains. Most of the equipment required for a course can be rented and some is provided. If you are already a group of four or more we can arrange a special course, especially in May and June. Intermediate, rescue, and mountaineering courses can also be organized.

Introduction to Rock Climbing  

This course introduces the beginner to the basics of rock climbing. At the end of the course participants will be able to set up their own short climbs. Basic knots, rappelling and safety systems will be covered. This is a basic course for those that have only climbed indoors before, and will give a foundation for future skills. Snow and Ice Mountaineering  

This course covers all aspects of traveling on snow and ice. Safety techniques, including self arrest and crevasse rescue are covered, as well as the placement of snow and ice anchors. Add a third day and use your new skills under the guidance of your instructor to ascend the classic North Glacier route on Mt. Athabasca reaching 11,452' at the Columbia Icefields. Avalanche Skills Training Course (AST 1)

This is 2 day course that includes classroom and outdoor instruction covering: mountain snowpack, terrain, trip preparation, avalanche formation, and self rescue. This course includes Avalanche safety training for recreation as recommended by the Canadian Avalanche Centre.

The Course Cost includes an Avalanche Awareness Handbook, an "Avaluator Card" and a diploma certificate upon successful completion. View course detail

Mountain Navigation

Learn the basic skills for navigating in the mountains! This course covers maps, scales, use of compass, use of altimeter, uses of GPS and trip planning. An essential course for the mountain traveler! This one day course will be held partly in the classroom, and partly in the field.

Dates: Custom courses can be arranged by request especially for groups of 4 or more.

Cost: Dependant on group size.Cost for instructor is $450/day. Not included: 5% Goods and Service Tax.

Personal Guiding & Instruction

This is suited for the individual wanting one-on-one instruction. For groups, special trips are routinely arranged.

Cost: *$450.00/day, (*Basic rate) Longer peaks and technical ascents may have a surcharge depending on the route.

Ski Touring in the Valemount area.

Ski Touring is the way to explore the mountains in the winter. Numerous day tours and overnight tours are available. We can organize all the logistics. Several locations are possible near Valemount for day skiing using snowmobile access.
